01Who we are and what this covers
ekwebworks is a web design and development business run by Jack Kells and Edward Sheinkein in the United States. In this policy, "ekwebworks", "we", "us" and "our" mean that business and the people who run it.
This policy explains what information we collect through this website, including the quote request form, and what we do with it. It doesn't cover websites we build for clients. Each of those has its own policy.
02What we collect
What you give us
When you send a quote request, we collect:
- your name and email address;
- your company name and existing website address, if you enter them;
- whatever you write about your project; and
- a record that you agreed to our Terms of Service and this policy, and which version you agreed to.
If you email or phone us instead, we get whatever you send that way, such as your email address, phone number and the content of your message.
What your browser sends automatically
- Your IP address. Our application never stores it in readable form. Before it reaches our database it's run through a one-way keyed hash, so what we keep is a code that lets us spot repeated submissions from the same connection, not your address. Separately, our web server's logs do record IP addresses in full (see How long we keep it).
- Browser details. The "user agent" your browser sends with every request, which names the browser, its version and your operating system. We store it with your request.
- Technical request details. Our web server's logs record the page or file requested, the time, and your browser details, alongside your IP address.
- When you opened the form. The form notes the time it was loaded so we can reject submissions sent back faster than a person could type. We check this and then discard it; it isn't stored.
03What we don't collect
- No cookies. This site doesn't set any, for tracking or for anything else.
- No analytics or tracking. There are no analytics tools, advertising pixels or tracking scripts on this site. Because we don't track you across websites, there's nothing for a browser's "Do Not Track" setting to switch off.
- No bought data. We don't buy or receive information about you from data brokers or other businesses.
- No payment details or passwords. We never ask for these on this site. Please don't put them in the form.
04How we use it
We use the information described above to:
- read your request, reply to it, and prepare a quote;
- follow up with you about that request, for example to arrange a call;
- keep a record of our conversations if you go on to become a client;
- protect the form from spam and abuse, which is what the hashed IP address, the submission log and the browser details are for;
- keep the site running and secure, which is what the web server logs are for; and
- meet our legal obligations.
We won't add you to a mailing list or send you marketing because you asked for a quote.
06How long we keep it
- Quote requests are kept for as long as we need them to reply to you and to keep a record of our work together. You can ask us to delete yours at any time.
- The submission log, which holds only the hashed IP code and whether each attempt was accepted, is deleted automatically after 3 days.
- Web server logs, which include full IP addresses, are deleted automatically after about 14 days.
- Emails between us are kept for as long as we need them to deal with your request, or while you're a client.
07How we protect it
The site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Our database can't be reached from the internet; only this website's own application can reach it, using an account that is only allowed to do what the form needs. Only the people who run ekwebworks can read quote requests.
No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee that information will never be accessed without permission. If a breach ever affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.
08Your rights and choices
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what information we hold about you, and give you a copy;
- correct anything that's wrong;
- delete your information; or
- stop contacting you.
Email us at ekwebworks@gmail.com. We'll reply within 30 days. We may need to confirm it's really you first, for example by asking you to write from the email address you gave us. We don't charge for this, and we won't treat you differently for asking.
Some laws, including those in California, the European Union and the United Kingdom, give you these rights and others. We'll honor any rights your local law gives you, and you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
09Children
This site is for businesses and adults. You must be 18 or older to send a quote request, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us their information, contact us and we'll delete it.
10Where your information is handled
We're based in the United States. If you contact us from another country, your information will be handled in the United States and wherever our hosting provider's servers are located. Data protection laws there may differ from those where you live.
11Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. If a change significantly affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll let you know by email before it takes effect.
